NATO Military Architecture in the Baltic Sea Region
The work package examines NATO's military architecture in the Baltic Sea region with a particular focus on the new NATO Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) deployment model. The novel force formation and the impact of this deployment on the regional security architecture is studied from the following angles: Structure of the Enhanced Forward Presence, deployment model's conceptual strengths as well as weaknesses of relatively small, multinational battalions on NATO's eastern edge, and implications of military, cultural, and conceptual diversity on the successful conduct of military operations. In this context, the study considers the current NATO military architecture in the Baltic Sea region as a "multinational laboratory" that provides important scholarly insights into the effects of heterogeneity on the overall dynamics of the mission.
