2 Postdoctoral start-up Fellowships in Early-Modern Maritime History 

8 months(2125 €/month)

The start-up fellowships provide financial support to write a grant application, with the aim to carry out a research project at Trier university’s chair of early modern history (with either European or German funding). 

Mentoring will be provided by the university’s Grant Office and the chair holder (Prof. Dr. Damien Tricoire). 

Trier University has developed into a major centre of maritime history thanks to its TRANSMARE institute (https://transmare.uni-trier.de/).

Maritime history is broadly understood as the history of the interactions between humans and the seas/the oceans, and social, cultural and political phenomena shaping these interactions, or influenced or made possible by them. 

 

We expect:

 - A PhD in a relevant field 

- An innovative research project idea 

- A good command of the English language 

- The willingness to learn the German language 

- The willingness to integrate into the chair of early modern history and the TRANSMARE institute; participation in events and research seminars linked with maritime history at Trier university
