About knowledge transfer at the IFZO

One of the Centre’s main concerns is the transfer of research results and the further development of regional studies in teaching as well as for the general public. The goal is to foster a broader understanding of relevant issues related to social change, regional cooperation and the ecological characteristics of the Baltic Sea region.

History and Culture of the Baltic Sea Region

The University of Greifswald established the interdisciplinary M.A. study programme “History and Culture of the Baltic Sea Region” (HiCuBaS), in which the IFZO’s research contents are passed on. This in turn generates new impulses for Baltic Sea Region research.
Virtual University of the Baltic Sea Region

Virtual University of the Baltic Sea Region

For the project Virtuelle Hochschule Ostseeraum (VHO), the IFZO collaborates with international partners in Stockholm, Tampere and St. Petersburg to improve the teaching programme available to M.A. students and teacher training students.
Young People Network for Balticness

Young People Network for Balticness

The centre partners with the Young People Network for Balticness (YoPeNET) initiative, which is supported by the Council of the Baltic Sea States and disseminates current research on the Baltic Sea region to school pupils, university students and young academics in order to stimulate political and social discourse.

To offer Ukrainian students of geoinformatics a chance on further education, researchers at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Baltic Sea Region Research are designing teaching content that can be accessed regardless of location.

Digital Exhibition “Viking Gold. Treasure politics since 1800”

The exhibition shows what part Viking-era gold treasures play as cultural heritage in people’s everyday lives and how closely cultural heritage was and is intertwined with politics: interpretations of the past are always historically conditioned. Appropriations of cultural heritage and demarcations from it are politically charged.
