The Interdisciplinary Centre for Baltic Sea Region Research (IFZO) is pleased to congratulate Dr. Andris Banka on receiving the 2026 Book Prize of the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS) for his monograph America, the Baltic States and the Making of an Unlikely Security Alliance. The biennial prize recognizes outstanding English-language scholarly books in the field of Baltic Studies.
In his award-winning study, Andris Banka examines the development of security relations between the United States and the Baltic States from the restoration of Baltic independence in the early 1990s to their integration into NATO. Drawing on extensive archival research and interviews with political decision-makers, the book provides new insights into the emergence of the US-Baltic security partnership and its significance for contemporary European security.
At IFZO and the University of Greifswald, Andris Banka's research focuses on Baltic security, NATO, and transatlantic relations. His work contributes significantly to the understanding of political developments in the Baltic Sea region and their broader international context.
