This subproject examines the resilience of peatland landscapes in the Baltic Sea region amid increasing droughts and extreme weather events. It focuses on rewetting drained peat soils as a contribution to climate protection and resilient rural areas. Using satellite data, land use in peatland areas since the 1990s is mapped to analyze how these areas can shift toward sustainable practices such as paludiculture. The goal is to identify ecologically resilient and economically viable development pathways, and to evaluate the effectiveness of European legislation, such as the EU Nature Restoration Law, across the Baltic Sea region.
